Community Outreach

Community Outreach Committee:

Purpose: Provide opportunities for the residents of the Greater Philadelphia area to learn about potential careers in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics field. We will accomplish this goal by planning, coordinating and hosting events that educate the people in the community about these educational and employment opportunities.  Below are some events our chapter will help coordinate:

1. MLK Day NSBE Community Service

Date: January 15, 2018

The NSBE Greater Philadelphia Professional Chapter will volunteer with the Bethel Community Baptist Church in Upper Darby, PA.  Volunteers will help package soups cups, make sandwiches, pack food & care packages, sort donated coats and hand these items out to people in need.

2. Engineer Week

Date: February, 2018

A week in mid February dedicated to inspiring students of all ages to get excited about engineering with various events and activities.

E-week is focused on providing public awareness of the positive contributions engineers provide to their companies, neighborhoods and communities.

3. Walk for Education

Date: April, 2018

A full day is devoted “to increase awareness of the opportunities available through education particularly in the STEM fields and to shatter myths about African-Americans in math, science, engineering and other technologies.”
