Outreach

At the end of the day, it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished. It’s about what you’ve given back.

Upcoming Opportunities

nsbe jr volunteers needed

The executive board is excited to announce that three new NSBE Jr. chapters have been established in the Greater Philadelphia community. The advisors for these chapters are looking for STEM Professionals (preferably Black) to support their programming this year. As a part of our commitment to positively impact the community, we would like to put out a call to our membership to volunteer to support these new chapters' programs this year! We kindly request those interested to complete the volunteer form to indicate how they would like to participate and their availability.

Past Opportunities

women’s history month community service

The Greater Philadelphia Professionals Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is collecting essential items to construct care packages for women in need throughout the month of March, in honor of Women’s History Month. The care packages will be given to the Susquehanna House, an emergency housing program that serves single, adult women experiencing homelessness who are between the ages of 18 and 60+.

We are asking for members (as well as friends and family) to collect “in-kind” or like new donations from the list below.

- pillows
- bath towels
- wash cloths
- soap
- robes
- slippers
- socks
- various types and sized underwear
- blankets
- body wash
- shampoos and lotions
- pads and tampons

We are asking for participants to not only collect donations, but if willing and able to, help us put together the care packages. A member of our executive board will be doing a “contactless” pickup from those who decide to make care packages at-home. We will be sharing instructions for putting together care packages in the middle of March, as well as hosting a “care packaging” virtual meetup. During the virtual meetup, the Vice President of Membership and the Secretary will be demonstrating how to put together care packages. Details will be shared at a later date.

If you would like to donate money to go toward purchasing in-kind donations, we accept checks, PayPal, and Zelle, please email treasurer@nsbephilly.org for more information on how to make monetary donations to the cause.

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we were unable to do a “walk” for education this year. Instead, our community outreach committee has worked very diligently to make this virtual packet. Please take some time to read below.

Finimpact Black owned businesses

#BlackLivesMatter is affecting the world in a profound way, bringing the plight of African Americans into the limelight. Its effects are far-reaching and it’s occurring in tandem with the COVID-19 pandemic to make it even more difficult to run a successful business. Finimpact, who provides services for finding small business loans, provided a list of ways/tips to support and help Black-owned small businesses. Please see the link below for more information.
